Today's Stop, St. Maarten

Philipsburg, the capital of Dutch St. Maarten, is where our ship docked. St. Maarten is an island that is half French and half Dutch. It's a pretty place, but much more commercialized than the other islands. I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed in this stop, as we spent it shopping and didn't take a tour of the island. All of my pix are of stores I stood outside of while the others bought jewelry!
That little ship you see in the background is the Maasdam. We're parked next to 2 truly large ships that make ours look like a tiny little thing.

These 2 stores are Kay's and Diamond International jewelry stores. A great deal of time was spent there so I thought I should put it in my book of memories. I enjoyed people watching while the others enjoyed gem shopping.

This is where we picked up a cab to take us into the heart of the shopping district.

I've been studying this pix, trying to figure out why I took it. Can anyone figure out what might be of interest in this scene?

We spent the day on this street. Lot's of shops to browse through
and pretty scenery all around us.

I particularly loved this street. Too bad you can't see it all that well in this picture. That yellow pointed roof you can just barely see in the middle of the picture, was a really darling shop.

Same pix with the added benefit of having me in it.
(It's that thing I have about proof that I was there.)

This is the only island where we were brave enough to eat the food.
This was a darling deli/ice cream shoppe. (You always add that exra 'pe' when the place is cute.)
They had some yummy sandwiches and fantastic Italian gelatto, but the service, though friendly, was a mess. They didn't manage to get anyone's order correct.

This was the view from our "shoppe" window.
You can see our tiny ship in the background with the giant ship behind it.

I'm sad that I didn't get pictures of the actual island, as it really was pretty. But I think I did better with our last stop, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Check back in tomorrow and give me a chance to redeem myself.

I REALLY want to go there now. My little heart is pounding with desire to see the Caribbean IRL. Poor me.

(BTW, IRL means "in real life," and btw means "by the way.")

I am guessing you were taking a picture of the outdoor AC unit? Either that or you love of trees? I thought you had seen enough palm trees so I am going with AC unit.

I told Tom that I want to go on a cruise for our 10 year anniversary. You have inspired me.
